Running races directed/co-directed by Karsten:

Festival of Leaves 5K

Saturday 8 October 2011 (tentative) - Front Royal, VA

Founded (or re-founded) by Patrick Farris in 2000; directed by yours truly since 2007. Typically small and cheap.

Greasy-Gooney 10K

Saturday 22 October 2011 (tentative) - Browntown, VA

Extremely scenic and quite challenging 6.2 mile race in the Blue Ridge foothills, eight miles south of Front Royal. Another Patrick Farris creation, now co-directed by me and Terry Leckie.

Stupid Little 10 Miler & 5K (on hiatus)

last held in March 2009 - Watermelon Park, Berryville, VA

The Shenandoah Valley's classic, sometimes-annual distance event. Ostensibly a low-key, low-budget, inexpensive affair, but I always wind up putting far more effort into it than I intend to. Was not held in 2010 or 2011 due to race director disinterest. May be revived one day. Many thanks to the good people of Watermelon Park for their hospitality over the years.

Markham Asylum 5 Mile Run (one-time event)

Saturday 27 December 2008 - Markham, VA

An extremely small pseudo-race held on Belle Meade Lane near I-66 exit 18 in northwestern Fauquier County. May be held again someday if there's an open date on the area racing schedule.

Santa's Big Butt Half-Marathon & 13½K (one-time event)

Sunday 27 December 2009 - Markham, VA

Another small pseudo-race, this time following rolling roads around the border of Warren & Clarke Counties. Could be held again, I suppose.

Running races which Karsten helps promote:

Rotary 5K Run for Polio & Quarter Mile Kids Run

Saturday 9 April 2011 - Jim Barnett Park, Winchester, VA

Chris Northrup's road race through the park and the Shenandoah University campus, with proceeds going to Rotary Charities. I assist with course maps, results, and promotion.

Front Royal Kiwanis 5K*

Saturday 14 May 2011 (tentative) - Warren County Mid. Sch., Front Royal, VA

Rumor has it that this race is being taken over by a new local chapter of the Special Olympics, although the Kiwanis will still be involved as well.

Veterans Day Road to Freedom 5K

Saturday 12 November 2011 (tentative) - V.A. Medical Ctr., Martinsburg, WV

A flat and fast race hosted by the VA Employees Association.

If you're looking for anything else... you're not likely to find it here. If you need something, send Karsten an e-mail.

(If you're looking for the other Karsten Brown, the one with the photography studio in Nevada, his site is at www.karstentb.com. I'm a different, unrelated Karsten Brown, the one who was born and raised in northern Virginia. Yes, believe it or not, there's more than one "Karsten Brown" here in the United States!)
