Saturday 18 May 2013 • 9:00 AM • Front Royal, VA
The thirteenth annual Front Royal Kiwanis 5K will be held on Saturday 18 May 2013 at 9:00 AM, starting and finishing at the Warren County Health & Human Services Complex (the former 15th Street School; same location as in previous years!) in Front Royal, Virginia. Runners of all abilities are welcome to participate!
The 3.1 mile running race follows a rolling course on paved roads through the northwestern part of town, including an out-and-back stretch through Randolph-Macon Academy. See our course map and elevation profile.
Entry fees are just $13 by Wednesday 15 May or $15 on race day, with a $1 discount available to Kiwanis members. Proceeds will benefit the Kiwanis Club of Front Royal and the Special Olympics.
Awards will be given to the top three overall males & females, first Masters (40 & over), and top three in mostly five-year age groups (14 & under, 15-19 through 55-59, and 60 & over).
The course records are 16:04.4 (Karsten Brown, 2011) and 19:28.8 (Laura Nelson, 2005); the Masters (40+) records are 18:13 (Jerry Anderson, 2002) and 20:46 (Sandy Adams, 2001). Last year's overall winners were Adam Owens (16:05.9) and Jill Atherton-Mellish (20:23.4). Results and photos from 2012 are available, as are results and photos (Picasa Web Albums or two sets on Facebook) from 2011; we're hoping to get this Web site updated soon with results from 2001-2010.
For more information about this year's race and an entry form, download the 2013 race flyer (PDF format, 352 KB)!
The Warren County Health & Human Services Complex is at 500 West 15th Street. A Google map showing the complex's location can be found here, and driving directions also appear on the race flyer. (Registration and the finish line will be in the parking lot on the east side of the complex, just south of the athletic field/track.)
If you have any questions, or if you'd like to volunteer on race morning, contact Terry Leckie at email@example.com or (540) 660-2378 (cell).
(The Webmaster hopes to have time to update this site more fully with past results, event records, more detailed driving directions, and more.)
Start of the 2004 Front Royal Kiwanis 5K. Hopefully we'll see a few more runners than this in 2013!
